What's a hotspot map?
We split the unit into small squares and score each one on what elk or deer need at that time of year: the right elevation for the season, cover (dark timber, thick brush), feed (meadows, parks, open slopes), distance to water, distance from roads and trailheads, and known herd range and migration data from CPW and USGS collar studies. The squares that score best become hotspots.
Think of it as everything the animals want this time of year, far from the road. It's a smart place to start glassing and hiking. It is not a guarantee animals are there on the day you hunt. You still have to hunt.

Early Season Scout
For archery, muzzleloader and 1st rifle hunters.
- Archery and muzzleloader: scouted in July and August
- 1st rifle: scouted late September to early October
- Game cameras only where state rules allow
- Field report and updated waypoints
Limited: only 5 to 8 Boots-on-the-Ground hunts total for the first season. Prices are approximate and depend on the unit.
